times change, people rarely do.
when i think about how culture shapes us, one of the things that continues to shock me is the propensity of christian folk to be thieves. i'm always interested to hear people's explanations about why its ok to steal. our logic really is fascinating. the biggest issue isn't really that we think we're not doing anything wrong, but that we have no regard to truth. we like things easy and free, therefore theft is just a logical conclusion.
maybe its not clocking in or out at the proper time so we get "some more scraps from the king's table," as braveheart would say.
maybe its not giving generously to the LORD and hording our profits to ourselves and our families.
maybe its buying a jaguar car while people starve across the way.
maybe its downloading music illegally.
doesn't really matter.
as humans, we find incredibly creative ways not to rob banks, but to become thieves none the less.
maybe i'm just in one of those moods, but as i said before, its not that we think we're not doing wrong, i know we do. its just that we don't care that we're doing wrong. we really don't care.
why is that?
well i think i know.
the ultimate reason of course is our sinful natures. our hearts are desperately wicked.
another reason that stems from this is a lack of interest in the Bible.
a lack of interest leads to a lack of reading.
a lack of reading leads to a lack of understanding.
a lack of understanding leads us to become something terrible: thieves.
in the book of proverbs, chapter 6, it talks about 6 things that the LORD hates, 7 things that are an abomination to HIM:
"haughty eyes, a lying tongue, and hands that shed innocent blood, a heart that devises wicked plans, feet that make haste to run to evil, a false witness who breathes out lies, and one who sows discord among brothers."
feet that make haste to run to evil...GOD hates feet that run to evil quickly.
HE also hates hearts that devise wicked plans.
i wonder if the LORD hates your feet and your heart.
